Humble Shareware Plea
Please pay the shareware fee of $10 if you enjoy playing this game. Help towards getting me a PowerPC. I’m struggling along with a measley LC 475 right now :-(
Consider your donation as an investment in my company. By funding me, you’ll be helping me to keep churning out great games for the Mac. Programming is in no way a cheap hobby. It costs at least $100 a year just to have and maintain the latest up-to-date programming tools!
It amazes me how many people will shovel out $10 for a night at the movies; two hours of entertainment, and most of the money goes to fill the pockets of rich hollywood executives and overpaid actors. But why won’t they shell out the same amount for a poor student who slaved away for several months to bring you hours of interactive enjoyment?
Corny but true....sigh....
Paying the shareware fee is simple. By using the registration program included with SCS Connect Four, you can pay by credit card, check, money order, cash, or First Virtual.
If you include your e-mail address when you register, I'll even send you a bonus opponent! Its difficulty level is between Andrew and Lancelot.
How To Play
The game of Connect Four is simple. Players take turns dropping colored chips into the grid. The chips fall from the top and pile up at the bottom. A player wins when four of his chips are connected horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
You can drop your chips simply by clicking on a valid grid cell (valid cells are the bottom most unoccupied cells).
You can choose to play againts several computer opponents or another human by choosing “Change Player...” from the Options menu, or by clicking and holding on the opponent's portrait.
Note: If you find the animations too violent for you or your children, they can be turned off from the Options menu.
Attention Programmers!
You too, can write your own opponents for SCS Connect Four. It’s really easy too! The hard part is making it challenging....
You can find the SCS Connect Four SDK on the SCS web site (see contact information at bottom of this file).
Can you create the ultimate opponent? Can you write the smartest, and the fastest AI? I challenge you!
Special thanks goes to the talented individuals who have already written opponents for SCS Connect Four!
Extra Thanks
Barry Day, for porting the AI from his awesome game, “Altair”
Keith Pomakis for providing his excellent public domain AI (called “Waterloo” because that’s where he’s from)

Version History
1.0.1 - 4/16/96 - Fixed big bad memory leak that was the root to all sorts of nasty problems. It gobbled up 2k of memory evey time a chip was dropped, causing the program to run out of memory and crash after just a few games!
1.0 — 4/4/96 - Initial release.
Other Software
Don't forget to check out our other great games! They can all be found on the SCS web site.
